Kittens First Full Moon

Genre 1
Book review 1
1.       Bibliographic data
Henkes, Kevin.  2004.  Kittens First Full Moon. Grennwillow Books. ISBN 0060588292

2.       Plot Summary
Kitten spots the moon in the sky and believes it could be her next bowl of milk.  She tries endlessly to reach for that bowl of milk but only finds herself beat up and out of breath.  No matter what she does she cannot get to that bowl of milk in the sky.

3.       Critical Analysis
The author writes this book using big font and easy words. This sequence book leaves young readers both sad and happy.   It can be frustrating to see that kitten repeatedly tries to reach that bowl of milk.  However Kitten never gives up.  The story shares step by step each level Kitten will do to reach her goal. This teaches young children to try many ways to reach their goal even if they keep on failing.
4.       Reviews and Awards
Winner of the 2005 Caldecott medal and a New York Times Best seller reported on www.bellaonline.com
5.       Connections
I think this book teaches children about sequence.   Elementary grade Studnets can rethink the events in the story and draw a picture about what happened first, next, then, and last.
